#heideas on being the #birthdaygirl👸🎂- grateful for being where I am at #heidifest54 - the last 10 years since heidifest44 have been challenging - at 44 I’d completed my cancer treatment and had hair on my head and was in the midst of managing mom’s hospice then funeral. Then focused on keeping everyone moving forward especially dad and grandma and keeping the practices going. Tried EMR - chucked EMR. Had an associate. Got back into my academic life. And then finally some big life decisions. Pretty amazing where things are now - Dad is remarried to a lovely woman and they are healthy, energetic and since he retired in Aug 2016, they’ve travelled the globe and he collects historic presidential memorabilia. Grandma lived to enjoy general silliness, lots of chocolate, birthdays and holidays with family and see her great grands thrive - my mission was to let her stay in her home - and I did with the help of dear friends and the wonderful women caring for her until she passed at home in 2014 just shy of 99. I had to come to grips with menopause as my body and shape changed, relearned what looked good on me and who I was as a woman, combined my love of travel and interest in global aesthetics with my love of teaching and sharing ideas into a busy international academic schedule, decided my office would focus only on my specialty - aesthetic dermatology, completed a staged gut renovation while working there, and left my university practice. Throughout I’ve been incredibly lucky to maintain dear friendships from the past and develop new ones, build an amazing team at work, and feel incredibly lucky to have the love and support of wonderful people. #whatarideithasbeensofar ... Looking forward to the next 10...
